The Challenge
A leading composite manufacturing company had a requirement for design and manufacture of some complex potting tools. The tools had to be easily assembled while mating curved faces had to seal with minimal clamping under temperature and with no location dowels. The final assembly had to be light weight enough to be carried by hand.
The Solution
KAL Global was engaged to design and source a set of tools to meet the design criteria. Designs were based upon final part CAD data, material selection, repeatability, durability and manufacturability. KAL Global applied its knowledge in CAD design, 5 axis machining, and material selection to come up with a successful design.
Results
- After proof of concept trials, the client went ahead and purchased a further 24 sets of tools.
- All design criteria were met or exceeded.
- The tools helped the company meet cost down objectives and reduced the need for expensive rework on non conforming components.
